We have considered alternative forms of packaging, and have chosen not to use boxes and void fill, because of how much more material and resources are involved. The products themselves are designed to be swung around and impacted at high speeds, so we are not as concerned about protecting them in shipping.

Once in awhile shipping mishaps do happen, and we will make things right in these instances. We also receive many shipments in boxes, and they sometimes arrive damaged, despite the extra protection. Given the number of packages we have sent out in envelopes and how few have been damaged, we are inclined to continue using less resources and making right when the rare mishap occurs.
