So you've decided to get some LED flowtoys, but can't decide which light engine to go with?

Many of our props come with the option of flowlights, capsule lights or vision core. Want beginner poi? You could get crystal poi with flowlights, or podpoi with capsule lights. Want a baton or chucks? You could choose from any of the 3 light units.

Our light engines have many similarities. They all:

  • have bright LEDS
  • use our highly evolved flowOS user interface
  • have many beautiful adjustable modes
  • have adjustable brightness and white balance
  • have the ability for you to save your favorites  to "playlists"
  • are durable, rechargeable and come with our lifetime warranty

Here are the differences that would help you make a decision:

Here are the main take-aways of each light engine:

Flowlights

  • Runs on a AAA (optimized for rechargeables): This is great if you don't have access to power and can access spare batteries. It helps keep the initial cost of the lights low, but the batteries and chargers can add up; the process of removing, charging and replacing the batteries is more involved than USB charging, and a USB power bank for charging your capsule or vision lights can also be used to charge your other devices. But if a battery ever fails, you can easily replace it. Whether AAA batteries are right for you really depends on your use case.
  • Battery door: Many people don't have a problem with them, but if you are all thumbs, you might find interacting with the battery door challenging.
  • No wireless control: you will need to turn each light on/off and change modes individually. This is not a problem if you have crystal poi, where you can press the button from the outside of the crystal case. If you have tube-based props like staffs, batons, flowchucks, you will need to remove the lights from the tubes to turn them on/off or change and adjust modes. If you know which modes you like, you can select your modes, put the lights back in the tubes and focus on playing. If you have tubing-based props and like to change modes often, this would not be a convenient option for you, especially if you have a prop like the trikon dragon with 6 flowlights.
  • Beautiful design: Flowlights are like little alien fish, refract light beautifully and are like an object of art. They have a cult following :)
  • 2-pixels: Flowlights give off 2 points of light, which can make it seem brighter or have ore visual effect than capsules.
  • Kinetic awareness 1.0: The light effects chill out when you are not spinning, a few modes respond to bumps, stalls and force.
  • Modular and interchangeable: You can swap them around a wide range of props. You'll just need to make sure the tube length is long enough to hold them, e.g. a baton that holds 1 capsule light will not hold a flowlight, as flowlights are longer than capsules, but a baton that holds flowlights will also hold capsules, and we offer replacement tubes to fit any light. You will need a flowlight adaptor for flowlights to be secured in flowcaps.
  • Linkable: You can link any number of flowlights together and fill a tube with flowlights.
  • Cost: Flowlights are our most economical light engine.

Capsule 2

  • USB rechargeable: Easy peasy.
  • Wireless control: You can sync all your capsule lights and control all lights with any one light. You can also sync with vision props, and use a capsule like a remote control.
  • App compatible: The new flowtoys app will work with capsules.
  • 1-pixel: Capsules are compact and have one point of light.
  • Hella-bright LEDs: Capsules feature 4 high-temp RGB LEDs for maximum brightness and incredible color depth is a small package.
  • Kinetic awareness 2.0: Most modes dynamically change as you move them and have a wide range of responses to common prop movements, finely tuned to different prop types.
  • Modular and interchangeable: You can easily swap capsules among a wide range of props, get spares for back-up.
  • Linkable up to 2 capsules: You can link up to 2 capsules together.
  • Cost: Capsules are between flowlights and vision in pricing.

Vision

  • USB rechargeable: Easy peasy.
  • Wireless control: You can sync all your vision lights and control all lights with any one light. You can also sync with capsules.
  • App compatible: The new flowtoys app will work with vision core.
  • Multi-pixel: Vision cores are multi-pixel lights. They put out the most amount of light and the most intricate patterns of all our light engines.
  • Kinetic awareness 2.0: Most modes dynamically change as you move them and have a wide range of responses to common prop movements, finely tuned to different prop types.
  • Not modular: Vision core lights are currently not modular. You will not be able to get vision poi and use the core in staffs and other props, but you can do a one-time transfer if you decide to change your prop later.
  • Cost: Vision core is our premium light engine.

Keep in mind that all flowtoys have ½ price trade-in value and are designed with interchangeable parts that enable you to service, modify and upgrade your props over time. Some changes are more involved than others, but almost anything is possible.
