We're sorry your capsule 2.0 lights aren't working perfectly! Many issues can be fixed with cleaning, TLC or troubleshooting - some of the tips below require soldering. We offer the tips to save you the trouble of shipping things back and forth (plus we know many of you like to DIY), but you are always welcome to send back your light for us to check out if you don't want to go through the troubleshooting. We're happy to help get you back in your flow.

Potential power & battery issues in capsule 2.0:

  • Short battery life

  • Battery drains when not in use

  • Does not turn on, even on USB

  • Turns on, ONLY on USB

  • Turns off on impact

-> Please scroll down to your issue for troubleshooting & solutions:

Short battery life (if battery is under 2 years old):

  1. Charge your capsule 2.0 overnight

  2. Remove from charger, then check charge level, it should be green [From OFF, hold button down until light flashes its battery level. Green = good]

  3. Make sure the light is set to standard brightness (level 3) [Go to Page 5, mode 2 --> it should flash 3 times]

  4. Set light to ‘bold’ mode (p1m3) to do a run-time test:

    • Set a timer for 2 hours, if fully charged, the light should still be on when the timer goes off (typically, a good battery will last 2+ hours in bold)

  • If none of the above work, we can send you a replacement battery for you to replace yourself [here's a video on how to replace your battery], or
  • If you do not wish to replace the battery yourself, you may ship in your light and we will update your battery for you, but you'll have to pay to ship it in. Please email us at support@flowtoys.com for instructions.

Battery drains when not in use:

  1. It is normal for the battery to lose a significant amount of its charge in 1-2 weeks depending on settings and firmware version, but it should hold at least 50% over many months if left off the whole time.

  2. If comparing 1 light to others, make sure you can identify it clearly, and that they are all using the same modes and settings, especially global brightness [Check out resource on global brightness].

  3. Charge and remove from charger, then check charge level, should be green [From OFF, hold button down until light flashes its battery level.]

  4. Let sit for 24-48 hours, then check charge level, should still be green

  • If none of the above work, the board needs replacement. Please email us at support@flowtoys.com, and we can send you a replacement board. Here's a video on how to replace your PCB
  • If you do not wish to replace the board yourself, you may ship in your light and we will update your board for you, but you will have to pay to ship it in. Please email us at support@flowtoys.com for instructions.

Does not turn on/charge, even on USB:

  1. Check USB jack for damage/debris:

    1. If there is debris → clear with a toothpick, needle or pin.

    2. If USB jack is damaged or missing, please email support@flowtoys.com for replacement instructions.

    3. If USB jack is clean and not damaged:

  2. Open the capsule shell (see video below)

  3. Plug into USB (make sure to use a tested, working cable/power supply)

  4. Perform a soft reset or power cycle - click for instructions

  • If none of the above work, please email support@flowtoys.com for replacement instructions.

Turns on, ONLY on USB:

  1. Open the capsule shell. [Click here for video instructions if needed.]

  2. Check the button for dirt/debris:

    • If dirty, you can simply rub it clean with your finger or a cloth.

    • If not dirty:

  3. Check the solder joints on the battery wire by pulling/wiggling them. They should be solid.

    • If there is any separation, they can be repaired with solder, or the battery can be replaced. If you don't wish to solder, email us at support@flowtoys.com for replacement instructions.

    • If solder joints are good:

  1. Check if either of the gold contacts are showing where the wires enter the grey connector under the glue:

    • If you can see the gold contact where it meets the wire, you can pick off the glue, remove the connector, push the gold contact fully inside the connector, re-connect the battery connector/contacts, test that this fixed the problem and add glue.
-> Click here for step-by-step instructions on re-inserting gold contacts into battery connector.

    • If gold contacts are not visible at the wire (they should be visible in the middle of the grey connector/ but not outside it, at the wire):

  • If none of the above work, the battery has probably failed internally and needs to be replaced. Please contact us at support@flowtoys.com.

Turns off on impact:

  1. Open the capsule shell - Click here for video instructions if needed.

  2. Check if either of the gold contacts are showing where the wires enter the grey connector under the glue:

  • If none of the above work, the battery has probably failed internally and needs to be replaced. Please contact us at support@flowtoys.com.
