Welcome to your new LED cigar boxes - a collaboration between Niels Duinker and flowtoys! We're so thrilled to be able to offer these revolutionary juggling props, and hope you have an incredible time with them.

The LED cigar box is pretty straightforward to use - just pop the capsule light into the box (see how below), press the button on the capsule light and you're ready to juggle. The capsule light has made modes and customizations and there are a lot of instructions on how to use the light here. This resource focuses on the box hardware.

On this support page you'll find information about:

  • How to install the capsule light into the box
  • How to convert standard capsule lights into cigar box capsules

Installing the capsule light into the cigar box

We ship the cigar boxes and lights separately to ensure a more secure fit, as the plug can relax during transit if it's hot. We recommend storing the lights separate from the box when not in use, especially in a hot car.

The box has 2 openings, one has a more rounded edge and is slightly larger. Insert the button end of the capsule in the rounded hole and push it in all the way until the “plug” in the capsule is flush with the box. Both ends of the capsule should be flush or slightly inset.

Note:

The plug might be quite hard to insert at first. This is to ensure the capsule does not shift easily during use. You may want to place it on a table/surface and use 2 thumbs to push it in. It will relax and get easier after being stored with the plug inserted in the box.

Check out the video in the section below for a walkthrough on how to assemble the parts and prevent issues!

CIGAR BOX MAINTENANCE

Replacing the tape/silicone pads

The HDPE material is very difficult to adhere to, and requires flame treatment to adhere/replace the tape. Here are tips we've learned in working out how to make the tape stick:

  • clean the surface with rubbing alcohol before applying the silicone ends or tape
  • flame treat the surface and the tape before applying
  • superglue down the edges of the silicone ends to prevent the ends from lifting
  • apply the border tape only to the flat surface, not the curved surfaces
  • do not overlap the border tape too much or you'll feel the extra layers when handling/juggling

Check out the video below for a full walkthrough on how to replace the tape/silicone pads. To skip to a specific section, check out the timestamps below:

  • ensure ends sit flat (:46)
  • adhere silicone ends (1:48)
  • tape your cigar box (10:54)

Troubleshooting & maintenance tips

To prevent your light/plug from getting loose:

The plug can loosen over time, or from heat. Do NOT leave the box in a hot car or bin/container in direct sunlight! The intense heat can cause the plug to relax completely and the fit could get too loose. If this happens see flowtoys for replacement parts. For the most secure fit, remove the plug from the box when not in use.

Tips for handling the light shifting during use:

Catching firmly on the long end should push the light back in place.

If your light is too loose, push it in backwards (plug end first) for a more secure fit.

Contact flowtoys for replacement plugs if needed.

Box not sitting flat on one side?

The two large sides of the box are intentionally concave (bent inwards) for easy hand-box grip. The rest should be flat or just slightly concave for good box-box grip.

Due to the manufacturing process, one of the short ends has a hole roughly drilled in it by the factory to relieve pressure after molding, this end can also be slightly convex (bent outward), which result in poor box-box grip, and is easy to fix.

Simply press it down very hard and it should stay down indefinitely.

As of late October 2025, we have been pre-pressing all boxes. However heat or pressure might cause you box sides to deform and here is an easy method to fix it:

  • Find a hard strong object a bit smaller than the side of the box being pressed, like a lighter, or a plastic bottle cap.
  • Place it on the table with most rounded side up, press the box down on it hard enough to permanently deform the surface back in to a flat or slightly concave shape. That’s it!

The capsule light and the cigar box casing itself are almost indestructible, but the grip tape/silicone pads are not. In addition to normal wear and tear of the tape from use, be careful how you store/carry them to avoid catching the edges and peeling up the tape.
